Reduced ATP-to-phosphocreatine Ratios in PCS

Prof Gabriele Ende is a medical physicist and an expert in brain imaging techniques, particularly magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). She works at the Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) Mannheim, Germany, where she serves as acting head of the Neuroimaging Department and leads the Core Facility ZIPP. The research conducted there focuses on the neurobiological foundations of neurological and psychiatric disorders. A particular focus of her work is the investigation of metabolic processes in the brain and their relationship to complex chronic conditions such as ME/CFS. Through the use of imaging techniques, changes in the brain are made visible that may be associated with symptoms such as cognitive impairment and post-exertional malaise (PEM). Her research makes an important contribution to a better understanding of the biological basis of ME/CFS and related conditions and supports the development of objective diagnostic markers as well as new therapeutic approaches.
