Prof Georg Schomerus is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at University Leipzig. His research focuses on stigma of mental illness, population attitudes toward people living with mental illnesses and public mental health. Prof Schomerus is a member of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) Section on Stigma and Mental Health, in the steering committee of Irrsinnig Menschlich e.V., and head of the Section on psycho-social health services research and public mental health at the German Association for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Deutschen Gesellschaft für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie, Psychosomatik und Neurology. In January 2026, Prof Schomerus initiated the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA)-funded health services research project "UNCOVER", which focuses on the improvement of the treatment and care of Long COVID and ME/CFS patients by exploring possible stigmatisation.
