In the BAYNET FOR MECFS project, coordinated by the MCFC, the investigators pool synergistic expertise from Bavarian and external partners to generate new data on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics, and treatment of ME/CFS in children, adolescents, and very young adults, as well as establish and evaluate new care services.
The individual subprojects (TP) aim to analyse health insurance data on the care situation of young patients (TP1), achieve precise phenotyping of individual clinical pictures through clinical and laboratory examinations (e.g. using questionnaires, functional tests, optical coherence tomography angiography, deformation cytometry) (TP2), conduct telemedicine-supported physical/occupational therapy and actometry (TP3), and develop and test individual, cross-sectoral concepts for interdisciplinary and multi-professional treatment over time (TP4).
The project is the first to involve all six Bavarian universities in a joint research project on ME/CFS and supports the establishment of a second pediatric ME/CFS center in Würzburg.
