Nina Warken has been the Federal Minister of Health in the government of Friedrich Merz since 2025. From 2013 to 2017 and again since 2018, Warken has been a member of the German Bundestag for the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). She studied law at the University of Heidelberg. In her role as Minister of Health (BMG), Warken, together with Federal Minister for Research, Technology and Space Dorothee Bär, initiated the "Alliance for Post-Infectious Diseases: Long COVID and ME/CFS." The alliance provides a framework for close cooperation between the BMG, the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), and other stakeholders regarding these diseases, including within the newly proclaimed "National Decade Against Post-Infectious Diseases." Warken is also responsible for the BMG's €150 million funding initiative for health services research on Long COVID, ME/CFS, and similar diseases.
