About
The aim of the Post-COVID Kids Bavaria 1.0 model project is to enable needs-based care for children, adolescents, and young adults with post-COVID syndrome and to ensure the best possible synergies within the limited resources of the healthcare system. The project is divided into two major subprojects, Subprojects 1 and 2, which were coordinated in Regensburg and Munich, respectively.
Subproject 2, coordinated by the Munich Chronic Fatigue Center (MCFC), pursues various synergistic work packages: First, a multifunctional, interdisciplinary center for children, adolescents, and young adults up to the age of 25 with post-COVID syndrome established on the Schwabing campus in cooperation with München Klinik gGmbH. This Post-COVID Fatigue Center (PCFC) builds on the MCFC team's many years of expertise in the care and research of ME/CFS in children and adolescents and enables specialised, interdisciplinary, and multi-professional outpatient, day-patient, and telemedical care for the affected young people.
Sociomedical aspects, including the best possible educational opportunities, are given special consideration. The PCFC's coordination office aims to process the numerous inquiries from those affected, facilitate patient pathways, organise interdisciplinary case conferences and continuing education programmes, and coordinates the various accompanying research projects. A specialised, inpatient treatment programme for young people with ME/CFS following COVID-19 established at the cooperating Center for Pain Therapy for Young People (ZSTJM) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Innovative e-health components support consultation requests to the PCFC (PädExpert® module) and facilitates the collection of complex health data from those affected (Praxis-App®). A web-based medical registry will be established to enable structured recording and scientific evaluation of the multiple care and health data. In addition, the satisfaction of those affected with the individual modules of the new care programme will be evaluated. The project provides the basis for various follow-up projects at the state and federal levels.
