Small non-coding RNA (sncRNAs) comprise a family of noncoding RNA with sizes ranging ~ 21–34 nucleotides (nt) that play a critical role in the regulation of gene expression. Several types of sncRNA have been described, being microRNA (miRNA), endogenous small interfering RNA (endo-siRNA), and Piwi-interacting RNA (piRNA).
