The Renal and Vascular Research Group (RVRG) of the Nephrological Laboratory on Campus Benjamin Franklin of the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin is headed by Prof. Dr. Markus van der Giet and PD Dr. Markus Toelle. The working group focuses on researching vascular changes that develop with impaired kidney function. The focus is on investigating the mechanisms involved in the progression and pathogenesis of atherosclerotic and arteriosclerotic changes in the vascular system. One focus is the identification and characterisation of new uremic toxins that are responsible for the vascular damage that is frequently observed in patients with renal insufficiency.
