The focus of the group lies on the analysis of the immune system in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection and SARS-CoV-2, as well as on the development of antiviral therapies and vaccinations. Current projects deal with the role of HIV-specific T cells and the importance of viral escape mechanisms through escape mutations and the viral Negative Regulatory Factor (Nef) protein. Another focus is the analysis of the humoral and cellular SARS-CoV-2-specific immune response and the role of cross-reactive T cells.
