In mental health care, survey instruments and tests are often used to assess the severity of a condition. Many such tests have been translated from English without sufficient investigation into whether they work as well in the Norwegian version. In recent years, there have been some issues related to the use of poorly quality-assured tools that have contributed to misdiagnoses of mental illness, overdiagnoses of personality disorders or incorrect detection of attention difficulties.
The group's members have over many years worked on the quality assurance of some of the tools used, and contributed to raising the quality of several of the tools that are used most in Norway and internationally. As an extension of their research into such tools, the group also investigates the health conditions that these tools are applied to. This largely concerns aspects of cognitive function, for example, and the understanding and treatment of attention difficulties in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
