Clinical research includes both interventional (experimental) and observational (non-interventional) studies. A control group is included in most clinical studies. This group receives another treatment regimen and/or placebo, i.e. a therapy without substantial efficacy. Clinical studies should ideally include randomization, in which the patients are allocated by chance to the therapy arms.
