Project description

MOVE-COVID-BW stands for "Molecular Immunological Characterization & Multimodal-Multicentric Care of Long-COVID in Childhood and Adolescence in Baden-Wuerttemberg". With the support of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration Baden-Wuerttemberg, the MOVE-COVID-BW project enables the establishment of a care network in Baden-Wuerttemberg, but also patient-oriented research on long-COVID and ME/CFS. As part of the model project, the investigators are setting up an interdisciplinary long-COVID consultation hour at the social pediatric centers of the university children's hospitals in Freiburg, Heidelberg, Tuebingen and Ulm to care for children and adolescents with long-COVID/post-COVID syndrome with and without ME/CFS and their relatives.

The MOVE-COVID-BW consortium is an association of the four university children's hospitals in Freiburg, Heidelberg, Tübingen and Ulm. The model project is being carried out under the direction of the Center for Children and Adolescent Medicine at the University Hospital Freiburg.

Objectives of the project:

1. Patient care - Structured development of long-COVID outpatient clinics at the social pediatric centers of the university children's hospitals in Freiburg, Heidelberg, Tuebingen and Ulm - Expansion of telemedical support and care for children and adolescents with long-COVID - Standardized diagnostics and treatment of patients

2. Health services research - Scientific support for the development of outpatient clinics and telemedical care - Investigation of how those involved at the different locations are doing with the project. The opinions of patients, medical and other therapeutic staff are requested and examined

3. Patient-oriented research - Search for biomarkers, i.e. special laboratory values or radiological values that allow to more easily diagnose long-COVID in children and adolescents, or to better monitor the course of the disease
